Sermon Text:
The Heart of the Vessel
{Jeremiah 18:1-3}
God gave Jeremiah an analogy, here God shows him a potter. Why a potter? Clay pot throwing is an art form, the artist throwing the pot has got to be very talented. I have watched potters do their art. It is not easy. Matter of fact you have to have a very steady hand to throw a pot. As much time as it takes or how steady your hands are the potter was not on the top ten list of artist. They were more on the practical side of the art world. So what is it that God is telling Jeremiah, us, as he watches this potter throw a pot? {Jeremiah 18:1-3} God could have taken him to the sea and showed him, Jeremiah, how He God was the powerful “I Am” He could have taken him to the mountains and showed him an earth quake to show His power. That I the Lord your God I am that I Am. In the simplest terms God was tell Jeremiah, us, that He is the Great I Am, the Lord your God.
First, you are clay. I created you from the very clay of the earth. I molded you from the cay of this world I created. {Genesis 1:26-27 and 2:7} God is wanting Jeremiah, us, to understand that He is the Creator God Almighty. That God chose the form we were to live as human beings. God chose to give us part of His Spirit when He breathed life into us. In the simple form He is the potter.
Second, God was telling Jeremiah, us, That once we accept God, we accept everything that goes with it. We give God the right to reach into our lives and mold us any way He sees fit. Yet we get angry with God when He does things in our lives that we do not like. {Romans 9:20-21} Like with our Gifts we are molded to fit the place in the body of Christ. We are molded to fit a job we are to do. We are molded for a mission inside and outside the Church.
{Hebrews 13:20-21} We are molded to do every good thing, good work, That God wants us to do. We have to be a vessel that carries His Spirit, a vessel mold to fit the Holy Spirit.
Are you molding God to fit into your life? Are you molding the Holy Spirit into something that seems to fit better and less constrictive? Are you molding the Kingdom of Heaven to fit your concerns? Are you molding the gift of salvation to fit your life style? Are you molding Jesus to fit you as the lord and master of your life? If you have answered yes to anyone of these questions then you have a problem with your relationship with God.
How are you to mold the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit is the voice of God. What the Holy Spirit speaks is what the Father speaks. {John 16:12-15} When the Father speaks to His children He expect us to listen. We may not like what we hear, but we are to obey what we hear. We are not to try and mold it to fit we are just to obey. We are not to mold the Kingdom of Heaven to our concerns, we are to be molded to the concerns of the Kingdom of Heaven and seek the things that have God’s approval. {Matthew 6:33} In allowing God to mold us to the concerns of the Kingdom of Heaven we are open to touching other lives and spreading the Good News, we are that vessel that God molded for that work. How can the bowl say no to the cereal being poured into it {2 Corinthians 4:7}
How do we mold Jesus to fit our leadership? How do we mold Jesus to be subject to our lordship? We cannot and to try and do so one is lying to him or herself. We cannot mold Jesus and His Salvation or the mercy of God to fit our life style. For there is only one Lord and only one Master and that is Jesus The Son of the living God. {Jude 1:4} Then if you have answered yes to any of the questions above you have a problem with your relationship with God. Ok, what do we do about it how do you get the relationship back to where it should be? First confession is the first part. You need to let God know you own up to the bad choices you have made. {James 5:16 and 1 John 1:9} Then we trust God to mold us. When we come from the realm of pride and enter into God presents with humility we are putting ourselves on the wheel and letting God to remold us. We become a new creation. We are useable by the master. In a change of our other unhealthy relationships we become useable by the master.
{2 Timothy 2:21}
When we become moldable, when we become pliable to God we are put on the potters wheel our God, Father, Creator will mold us to His design. We will become what God wants for us to be. The heart of the vessel will be that of God. We will carry the Heart of God where every we go. We will be His vessels. We will become obedient and no longer be rebellious.
Our relationship with God will become an everyday response to the grace and mercy that our Father has for us.
{2 Timothy 2:20} In that large house there are many bowls. Some are the special once for guest only, then there are the ones for family use every day use. The bowls of honor. Then there is the dog bowl. Not so honorable. De we want to feed the guest or do we want to feed the dog?
